Welsh Revival Trail
Wales is the "Land of Revivals", having experienced a spiritual outpouring many times in its history. The gospel has also gone out to the nations because of the revivals in this land. This Revival Trail focuses on the 1904-1905 revival, and is a self-guided prayer resource focused on Swansea and its surrounding regions.
Each location in this guide carries its own story within the wider movement of the 1904 Welsh revival. The intention is not to recreate the past or suggest that revival is tied to geography but to allow these places to serve as a reminder of what God has done and an invitation to seek Him again in our time.
The journey is deliberately unstructured. You may visit one location or several, linger or move on, pray briefly or remain for hours. What matters is not the completion of an itinerary, but the posture of the heart. Our prayer is that the same God who moved in past generations would continue His work in ours.
This guide is not a organised tour or programme. It is designed for individuals or small groups who are willing to make their own journey and at their own pace. Black Mountains (Brecon Beacons National Park)
Rees Howells spent much time walking and praying at the Black Mountains, a mountain range in Southeast Wales that is part of the Brecon Beacons National Park today. During one of his walks there, the Lord called Rees to serve Him full-time, beginning a new chapter of complete dependance on God for daily provision. This was also the place that he and his wife dedicated themselves to the Lord’s call to start the Bible College of Wales by faith. All the money they had between them that day was 16 shillings (today’s equivalent of £55 to £60 in purchasing power).

Pisgah Chapel
While Moriah chapel was the epicentre of the Welsh revival and where the revivalist Evan Roberts would preach. Pisgah chapel was the vortex of the revival, because it was here that great intercession and prayer was made. Evan Roberts preached at Moriah but he prayed at Pisgah. Pisgah chapel was his first love and it was the place where the cause of revival was protected. After all, revival is not just about exotic experiences; we are after the purposes of God to be accomplished. In 2016, the Bible College of Wales purchased and restored Pisgah Chapel when it was at the verge of collapse, and it continues to be a House of Prayer for all nations today.

Moriah Chapel
After his encounter with the Holy Spirit at Blaenannerch, Evan Roberts sensed the call to return to Loughor, and began to preach to the young people at Moriah Chapel, appealing to them to repent and surrender their lives to the Lord completely. Over a series of prayer meetings, each night, the presence of the Holy Spirit became stronger.
On one occasion, he rallied the congregation to pray the prayer, “Send the Holy Spirit now for Jesus Christ’s sake,” and the Holy Spirit fell upon the people like fire.
People were seen crying for joy or weeping over their sin at the revival meetings that followed, some even lasting until the early hours of the morning. The church was filled and the crowds sometimes spilled out to the streets. An estimated 100,000 people in Wales became Christians as part of the revival.

The Bible College of Wales
As a young convert, Rees Howells experienced the outpouring of the Holy Spirit during the 1904 Welsh revival and came to a place of surrender that allowed the Spirit to use him powerfully in intercession and preaching, carrying revival fire wherever he went. After six years of fruitful ministry in Africa, the Lord led him to start the Bible College of Wales, which eventually became an intercessory hub for the gospel to reach the nations. The “Every Creature Vision” became a central to the college – to intercede, to go, and to serve others who would take the message of Jesus to the ends of the earth. This continues to be the heart cry of the college today – to see the Lord of the harvest pour out His spirit upon every tribe and tongue (Joel 2:28-29) through willing vessels that will say “yes” to Him.

Blaenannerch Chapel
The itinerant evangelist Seth Joshua had been praying for revival, asking God to raise a man from the working class to usher in revival in Wales. Evan Roberts became the answer to his prayers! Seated in this very chapel, Evan Roberts was baptized and filled with the Holy Spirit here in a meeting where Seth Joshua challenged the congregation to invite the Lord to “bend” them. Evan cried out, “O Lord, bend me! Bend me!" Then suddenly glory broke, and he felt a wave of peace come over him with compassion for the unsaved he had never experienced before. While visiting in 2012, Pastor Yang Tuck Yoong also received a prophetic word that confirmed that the Lord was speaking about redeeming the Bible College of Wales when the property was put up for sale.

Tabernacl Chapel, New Quay
Joseph Jenkins, a Calvinistic methodist minister here in New Quay, encountered the fire of the Holy Spirit while praying for a deep encounter with God. Radically transformed, he encouraged others to also seek the Lord for their own experience with the Holy Spirit. While he led a Sunday meeting here in February 1904, a young girl named Florrie Evans gave her testimony in a youth meeting: “I love the Lord Jesus with all my heart—he died for me.” The overwhelming presence of God fell in their gathering and her words became a spark that ignited widespread revival – as young people caught a hunger for the Lord that spread to neighbouring congregations.
